The Basic Model Interface (BMI) is a set of query and control functions that, when implemented for a software element such as a model or a dataset, makes that element easier to couple with other software elements that also expose a BMI. By providing a standard interface for models to communicate with each other, we can facilitate collaboration and accelerate scientific discovery.
